FAQs
What are color change gemstones?
Color change gemstones exhibit different colors under varying light sources, typically shifting between daylight and incandescent light. This phenomenon is caused by the way the gem's crystal structure absorbs light.
Which gemstones display color change properties?
Notable examples include Alexandrite, Color Change Garnet, Sapphire, and Diaspore. Alexandrite is the most famous, typically shifting from green in daylight to red under incandescent lighting.
Are all color change gemstones natural?
Not necessarily. While many are natural, some color change effects can be simulated in lab-created stones. Always check certification to confirm authenticity and origin.
How is the strength of the color change measured?
Color change is rated based on the degree of visual shift — strong, moderate, or weak. A strong change means the gemstone displays distinctly different hues in different lighting.
Why are color change gems more expensive?
Rarity and visual uniqueness drive the price. Natural stones with a strong and distinct color change, especially Alexandrite, are considered highly valuable.
Can color change gemstones be used in everyday jewelry?
Yes, depending on the gem’s hardness. Alexandrite and Sapphire are durable for daily wear, while softer stones like Diaspore require more care.
Are these gemstones certified?
At GemSelect, all color change gemstones are certified to guarantee their authenticity, natural origin, and the presence of color change properties.

Loved the price and the quality and the certification options which is the main reason why I buy. The guarantee is also a great reason to use gem select.

Would have bought an indigo and selenite, but neither listed. But, you do offer quite a large assortment otherwise.

I was looking for a small gift for a friend- the process is the same as every other time and was very simple, and she even got her gift early! On the downside, there's no way to easily keep track of multiple Shipping Addresses, so if I want to send a gift to Friend A and to Friend B, I have to overwrite everything and it's a fair bit clunky in that regard.
