Oval Sapphire Gems
Natural sapphires are one of the most popular gemstones used for jewelry today. Sapphire gems can be found in various shapes and cutting styles, including classic rounds and ovals, as well as fancy hearts, trillions and fantasy cuts. Oval shape sapphires are one of the most common since they tend to preserve the most carat weight during processing. Oval sapphires can be faceted or cut en cabochon, but well-cut faceted sapphires will typically sell for much more than an oval sapphire cabochon. Blue is the traditional sapphire color, and oval blue sapphires are one of the most desirable gems on the market today.
Oval sapphires can be found in a wide variety of bright and vivid colors. All colors of sapphire, except for blue and red, are referred to as fancy sapphire. Oval shape sapphires are excellent for those who enjoy classic yet elegant designs. Prized for their superior hardness and excellent durability, sapphire hardness ranks a 9 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness, which makes them one of the hardest natural materials on earth, second only to diamond.
Sapphire is a variety of corundum, the same material which makes up that of fine red ruby. Both sapphire and ruby are part of the elite group of 'precious four' gems, along with emerald and diamond. Sapphire exhibits excellent brilliance and an attractive vitreous luster when cut and polished, which is why sapphires are thought to be one of the most valuable and wearable of all colored gemstones. The term 'corundum' originates from the ancient Sanskrit word 'kuruvindam'; while 'sapphire' comes from Persian 'safir'. Oval sapphires are very popular for use in jewelry, but unlike other sapphire shapes, such as trillions or princess-cuts or trillions, ovals are ideal for wearing as the main 'center' stone rather than as small accents or melee stones. Sapphires are seen as the guardians of love and when given as gifts, sapphires are thought to enhance love and spirits to one another. Throughout history, sapphire has symbolized truth, sincerity and loyalty, while bringing about peace, joy and wisdom to whom shall wear fine sapphire.

The opals I ordered are absolutely beautiful, very fiery and well-cut. The pictures online didn’t do them justice. Shipping did take longer than expected (I chose the standard option), but the gemstones I received were definitely worth the wait.
I have purchased gems from Gem Select twice a year, for more than a few years.Gem select is the best place to buy gems. The selection and presentation are genuine. What you see is what you get, keeping in mind the carat weight, and measurements they have listed. Never have I been disappointed with any gem I have received from them. Nan
GemSelect has a great selection of smaller cabochons. Many other retailers do not. Plus, the photo of the stone is the one you are purchasing. Shipping from Thailand is nearly as fast as from within the US. Stones are tightly and neatly packaged.
