Larimar Species
Larimar is a variety of the mineral, pectolite, which is a fairly common fibrous crystal. The vast majority of pectolite is far too soft, fragile and poorly colored to be considered as a gemstone but on very rare occasions the right mineral ingredients with the addition of heat, pressure and time can create what has come to be known as Larimar.
Larimar Price
With such an unusual gemstone as Larimar where every example is a totally unique one-off there will always be an element of personal choice when it comes to their price. Whichever Larimar takes your fancy is the most valuable to you.
That being said, bright blue colors are the most popular and fetch the higher prices. Turquoises and teals are well-liked too and clean white wisps and marbling can add value.
Any odd patches of dark color such as black, red or brown will detract from the price unless they create interesting patterns.
Carat Weight
Larimar gemstones can be found in quite large carat weights relatively easily. This will mean that the price will not increase dramatically as the stones get bigger - it is all about the color with Larimar.
Even though it is a rare and beautiful gemstone most examples will be between $2 and $10 per carat.
