Charoite is an enigmatic gemstone which stands out like a beacon of color in the bleak Russian mountains of Siberia where it was discovered a few decades ago.
Charoite can be quickly described as a purple or violet gemstone but look deeper and hidden treasures are revealed with swirls of black and wispy clouds of white decorating the smooth silky surface.
The bright violet and purple colors with lilac, lavender and heather undertones and what look like hand-painted markings have led many people to believe it is a man-made gemstone.
Not so, this is an all-natural beauty.

Charoite is a rather unique gemstone that should technically be called a rock as it is usually made up of a combination of various different minerals.
The lovely violet or purple gemstones you see on our website are made up of mostly Charoite material - which gives it the dominant color - but also contain other minerals such as augite, feldspar, tinaksite which contribute the white and black swirls or patterns.
Charoite is a stunning gemstone which is quite rare and found in only one place on earth, yet it is still a very reasonably priced item.
As usual, the prices are dictated by the color, with bright violet hues the most sought-after and interesting swirls and flowing lines of black and white a welcome addition.
Look out for any odd colored patches as this can lower the price but, at the same time, certain patterns that create 'pictures' or 'motifs' can raise the value.
Charoite can be found in huge slabs of rock in nature so finding large gemstones is not an issue. Therefore the price per carat does not rise with size.
It is almost solely the color that sets the price and most gemstones will fall into a price bracket of $1 - $3 per carat.

When it was first shown around the world, people assumed this outstanding stone had to be man-made or artificially enhanced in some way but, in fact, Charoite is not treated in any way other than cutting and polishing.
Charoite is found in only one location in the whole world, in the Murun Mountain Range in the Republic of Sakha in Russia between the Chara and Tokko Rivers.
Charoite is rated at 5 on Mohs hardness scale so some care is needed when using it for jewelry items. Pendants, brooches and earrings should be fine but protective settings would be a good idea for rings.
With its gorgeous violet or purple colors, feathery patterns and availability in large and odd shapes, Charoite is ideal for unique one-off gemstones for jewelry making.

Excellent prices, excellent gemstones, easy to navigating, at the checkout, only a part of my cart was paid, then I get back to my chart, and the missing gemstones were there, so I pay it.At the end of the day, I did 2 consecutive purchases, paying 2 shippings. But even with that issue, I’m sure that worth it.Thanks!

I like the search ability. I was looking for a gemstone of particular size and color to place in a ring that I already have. Your company carries a large variety of beautiful stones.

After working with and polishing low-grade, rough fire-agate, only to be disappointed, this shop was nirvana. The costs of some gems might seem high, but I have easily spent the same amount rough polishing lousy material only to get a few hints of fire. If you want Fire-agates, BUY the agates you want. These are excellent specimens and are worth considering.
