AventurineEnjoy our online selection of aventurine gemstones for sale. We carry green and orange aventurine in multiple shapes like oval, round, pear, trillion or fancy. The specific green tones and silky shine in this gemstone is quite unique. Aventurine stones are hard based on the Mohs hardness scale and therefore very suitable for daily wear in any type of jewelry. This gemstone is available in larger sizes and at fairly low prices. |
A stroke of luck! Back in the 1700s, a glassworker on the Venetian island of Murano accidently knocked some copper filings into the molten glass he was working on. The result was a deep green crystal with random iridescent sparkles.
This product gained great acclaim when used to make jewelry and given the name 'aventurine' which means 'by chance' or 'by luck'. Later on, a natural stone was discovered in India that looked very similar so it was given the same name.
Natural Aventurine is most commonly green but can be found in yellow, orange, pink, red and brown tones. It can also have patterns and patches of color as well as banding and the better examples will have glittery metallic flecks of mica.

Aventurine is a type of quartz or, more properly a quartzite, which contains fragments of other elements such as fuchsite, mica and hematite.
Aventurine is a very affordable gemstone and good examples with deep green colors can be bought for just a few dollars per carat - even the large sizes.
Aventurine is generally an untreated gemstone - just cut and polished into beautiful cabochon gemstones. If you come across aventurine with any startling vivid or unnatural looking colors then they have probably been dyed.
The biggest producer of aventurine is probably still India but Brazil, Russia and Tanzania are also well-known sources.
Aventurine is rated at 7 on Mohs hardness scale which makes it strong enough for all jewelry items including daily wear pieces.
The odd-shaped large cabochons are ideal for eye-catching pendants and brooches and they can also be found in matching pairs for dramatic earrings.
Aventurine is also ideal for hobby jewelry makers because of the big sizes and affordability.

Everything was good about this order except I was a little disappointed in the product because it was so small. This is the first time that I have ever bought a gem so I was very unfamiliar with the sizes mainly because measurements were in metric.
