Rubies that have been enhanced by heat treatment only are becoming increasingly rare. Nowadays, nearly all of the rubies on the market are treated to enhance color and clarity, although untreated rubies can still be found. For the most part, heated rubies are very well-accepted by the general public, but nowadays, most rubies are enhanced through 'fracture-filling' technique. Although fracture-filled rubies are very affordable gems, sometimes offered for as little as $10-$20 USD per carat, many experts believe they should not be traded as 'ruby' since they are heavily enhanced. However, without this type of treatment available, most consumers would never be able to afford natural ruby. The filling of rubies has made them more affordable and readily attainable for anyone. The downside to filled rubies is that they are much more fragile than ruby which has been heat-treated only.
For those who can afford natural rubies that are only enhanced through routine heat, then we definitely recommend buying non-fracture-filled rubies. Heat-only rubies are excellent investment gemstones as they tend to gain value over time. With ruby sources and production slowly depleting, it may be hard to find heat only rubies in the near future. Prices for fine quality natural red rubies can be very expensive, especially gemstones with top color, clarity, and cut, but when buying from the source, you can save thousands of dollars versus paying full retail at your local shopping malls.

The calibrated section of the search is great for finding appropriate options for known settings and has a very convenient set of subcategories that make shopping for stones for bracelets and earrings much easier.
My order was late by a few days, even though I paid extra for express shipping. Everything else was fantastic though, stones arrived beautifully packaged and I was pleasantly surprised that information cards were included for each stone. Fabulous :)
