Peridot belongs to the forsterite-fayalite mineral series which is part of the olivine group. It is one of the "idiochromatic" gems, meaning its color comes from the basic chemical composition of the mineral itself, not from minor impurities, and therefore will only be found in shades of green. In fact peridot is one of the few gemstones found in only one color. Historically important sources in Egypt have been superseded by today's main sources in Arizona and Pakistan. The Pakistani peridot in particular is very fine, and a new find in Pakistan in the mid-1990's has made peridot available to a wider market. The supply of peridot from China is also increasing and we have recently sourced top quality peridot from Vietnam.
Generally good buying experience, and the sit is very user friendly. Only that the shipping cost $20 US) is very expensive and this discourages me from buying more often lay. Many others sellers ship free. Honestly, your prices are not the most competitive but you do have very wide range of selection, so I bought and will buy again.

I discovered Gem Select several years ago and after unsuccessfully trying to find REAL jewelry at the stores here that weren't completely out of my price range I tried online. Most of the sites had jewelry already made that were hideous. When I stumbled on gem select I found that I could design my own jewelry and pick my own stones at a very reasonable cost. And the most compliments that I ever had was for my single large amethyst that hung on a very simple silver chain. I think my total cost was about $64. I will never buy from anywhere else. Thank you Gem Select.
