Opal is a very varied family of gemstones and Hyalite Opals are possibly the most unusual.
More a gemstone for the collector than the jewelry market, Hyalite Opals can be found in Namibia, Madagascar, the USA and most recently, Mexico.
The name Hyalite means water-like and, as the name suggests, they are generally colorless and clear.
However some rare examples can be found in vivid greens and yellows with a spectacular color change and fluorescing phenomena. Tiny amounts of uranium within the gemstone cause dramatic color changes when viewed under daylight or in incandescent lighting.
In addition, the Hyalite gemstone can display fluorescence or luminescence in daylight conditions which is very unusual.
Hyalite Opals contain minute amounts of radioactivity which surely contributes to their amazing color behavior but does not pose any health dangers.

I was looking for very specific loose gems for my collection and some loose gems to add to a piece of jewelry I want to have made and Gem Select had everything I was looking for and the selection and price ranges were outstanding. I will absolutely purchase from this vendor again and often. I am so very pleased with the items I received.
I checked reviews throughout the internet and was thoroughly impressed with the positive experiences of others. I’m constantly worried about purchasing fake stones. The many satisfied customers have given me confidence in what I’m purchasing.
Nice selection of different types of gemstones and it’s nice to be able to filter your options to get close to what you are looking for. Plus each gem is photographed so you see the actual look of the specific gems you are considering
The Ruby Zoisite bird is beautiful and will delight my sister, I hope, for her birthday in July. I, personally love the stone which is within her ruby birthday stone, and the bird appears beautifully carved.
