About Chocolate Opal
The chocolate opal is an amazing gem with an interesting story. Opal gemstones were first suspected to exist in Southern Africa since 1939, when anthropologist and archeologist, Louis Leakey, initially discovered opal artifacts in a Kenyan cave during a gathering expedition. Leakey found traces of evidence that opals were once used in the production of hand tools used by Ethiopia's ancient civilization. Later, in 1995, mining engineer, Telahun Yohannes rediscovered the Yita Ridge opal field deposits, located approximately 150 miles northeast of Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa. Soon after, chocolate opals were discovered, extracted and shared with the rest of the world.

A true treasure chest of high quality gems to choose from, many of which cannot be easily found anywhere else. I was thrilled with my order when it arrived - the stones were beautiful! My package had temporarily got lost in the mail by the USPS and when I reported this online to GemSelect they immediately responded with an email offering me a choice of three very generous offers of compensation. Very impressive! Thank you, GemSelect!

I asked them not to ship until Jan. 25th, 2013, as I am leaving the country. I'll have more info upon receiving the merchandise, but all in all the transaction went smoothly. Michael Radke
