Introduction to Amazonite

Amazonite is a gemstone known for its striking blue-green color. It belongs to the feldspar mineral group and is primarily composed of potassium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen. Of course the Ancient Egyptians did not call it Amazonite or the scientific name, Microline Feldspar, but used the names Neshmet or Heseg for the light green gemstone which made such gorgeous jewelry, amulets, seals and inlays.

A chapter of the Book of the Dead called the Judgment of Osiris, which guided ancient Egyptians through death and into the afterlife, was engraved on Amazonite.

Amazonite is generally a light green gemstone with the hues ranging from a grayish pistachio to an almost blue, turquoise coloring with jungle and jade greens in between.

The color green represents growth, new-life, renewal, spring and balance while the more blue colors suggest calmness, clear thinking, creativity, inspiration and self-sufficiency.

As it is connected to the throat and heart chakra, Amazonite has a direct relationship with this area of the body on a physical level including lung and heart issues.

I like to hold an Amazonite in the palm of my hand and visualize its cool green color as I concentrate on my goals and wishes.

Amazonite is a very protective gemstone which will guard you from the electromagnetic waves of radiation that pervade the modern world. It is powerful but gentle enough to be worn everyday with no ill effects.
