Gemstone Elixirs
Gemstone elixirs, also known as crystal essences or crystal elixir, have long been revered for their purported healing and transformative properties. Crystal stores and new-age websites, even Amazon, are selling bottles of gemstone elixir by the truckload at prices that can raise an eyebrow. Yet they are so simple to make and can be easily personalized to your particular needs.
I’ll begin by telling you how to make a crystal elixirs (or tonic, essence, water) using the direct method.
- Place a gemstone into a glass or pitcher made of glass
- Add fresh spring water and cover
- Leave overnight
- Remove gemstone
That’s it! You could place the glass or pitcher under the light of a full moon and give it an intention for a power boost but either way you could have a crystal elixir ready by morning.
Some gemstones can contain harmful toxins – I will give a list at the bottom of the article – but if you would like to benefit from their spiritual power we can still make an elixir. Place the gemstone inside a small sealed glass container and place that in the water – the gemstone will not make contact with the water. This is known as the indirect method.
What can you use the gemstone elixir for?
- Keep it in the fridge as a refreshing drink
- Use it to make herbal teas
- Dab the water onto your Chakra points
- Spray your room or house with a healthy aura
- Add to the bath water
- Use in an atomizer for a cooling spritz on a hot day
- Watering plants
- Healthy drink for your pet
Which gemstones make the best elixirs?
The simple answer to this question is whichever crystal you find the most attractive or calls out to you. I am sure you have a favorite gemstone or two that you find most helpful and comforting – use them to make an elixir.
Another way is to choose a gemstone that will deal with your particular issue – whether it is physical or spiritual or mental – and then use it to make an elixir.
For example, amethyst is well-known for its ability to improve sleep and ward off nightmares so a glass of water or a cup of herbal tea made with amethyst elixir would be ideal at bedtime if you suffer from insomnia or bad dreams.
Different gemstones affect different chakras, usually according to the color of the crystal – a yellow stone would match up with the Solar Plexus Chakra, a red one for the Root Chakra and so on.
If you felt one of your chakras was blocked then dabbing the elixir or placing a damp cloth dipped in the elixir on the chakra location will help to unblock it.
A sign that the Throat Chakra is out of alignment could be laryngitis, tonsillitis or a stiff neck if it manifests itself physically. Mentally it could be a fear of public speaking or an inability to make yourself understood. A turquoise or aquamarine elixir can help – dab it on the skin or gargle with it.
So we know just about any stone can be used to make an elixir (using appropriate method to be safe) but how about a few recommended crystals for elixirs. These are our choices for the best gemstones for elixirs:

Black tourmaline is a powerful protective stone believed to fend off negative energies especially the EMF pollution that permeates the modern world. It is also a great grounding stone and its powers are enhanced considerably when taken as an elixir. To be extra safe, make using the indirect method.

As I mentioned earlier, you can use any of the well known crystals to make your own elixir – you can even mix and match a few to make your own special concoction to meet your specific needs.
The following is a list of our all natural gemstones which would suggest you use the indirect method to make the elixir, not because I feel any will be dangerous but just to be extra safe.
Please do some research for yourself if you are going to make your own elixir and steer clear of any obscure sounding crystals, any crumbly or flaky crystals, man-made or dyed crystals.
