Bloodstone is a type of chalcedony which in turn is a type of quartz. It shares a very similar chemical make-up and crystal structure as other gemstones such as agate, jasper and chrysoprase which are usually separated into varieties by color, patterns or banding. Bloodstone is basically the deep green variety of chalcedony.
