Why Buy chalcedony gemstones?

Chalcedony, or calcedony, is a fine-grained variety of the silica mineral quartz. It has a waxy luster and appears in a great variety of colors - usually blue-white, buff, light tan, gray, yellow or brown. Chalcedony is named after the ancient seaport of Chalcedon (Kadikoy, Turkey). Archaeologists have dug up Babylonian and Assyrian chalcedony cylinder-seals dating from 500 BC. Common forms of chalcedony include agate, bloodstone, jasper, bloodstone, and onyx, among others.

What are some of the properties of chalcedony gemstones?

Chalcedony is typically cut as cabochon gemstones. Cabochon style cutting accentuates the glow that made Chalcedony desireable. On the Mohs scale of hardness, it is a 6.5 - 7 out of 10 which makes it a durable gem type that is suitable for numerous types of jewelry.

What are good ways to use chalcedony gemstones?

Some of the types of gems in this family are quite common, so this gem type is sought after by professional and amateur jewelers. Because of Chalcedony's durability, it is suitable for any type of jewelry even pieces that are to be worn daily such as rings and pendants.

I love gemselect and I have bought a fair amount from them. The only complaint I have is not being able to save gems. I have a lot of projects so i am in the market for a lot of different gems and it's so disappointing to have to delete them all just to purchase one or two that I have saved in my cart.

Size and Weight

Gems are always measured in Millimeter (mm)

Dimensions are given as;
length x width x depth,
except for round stones which are;
diameter x depth

Select gems by size, not by weight!
Gem varieties vary in density, so carat weight is not a good indication of size

Note: 1ct = 0.2g
