Burmese Rubies

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has long been a producer of some of the world's finest rubies, particularly ruby mined from the Mogok region of Burma. The production of rubies from Burmese mines has come to a slow-down, which makes owning a Burmese ruby that much more special. Red ruby mined from the Mong Hsu region of Burma are also very good quality, but are known to exhibit slightly bluish or purplish hues.

While other sources for rubies have cropped up such as Madagascar and Tanzania, Burmese Rubies are still considered the finest in the world and is renowned as the world's most important fine ruby source.

Green, the color of nature, spring, energy and new life. Concave cut Gems

Traditional gem facets are flat or two-dimensional. Concave cutting creates facets that are curved or three-dimensional. These curved facets refract more of the ambient light and return it to the eye as brilliance. Concave cutting is an innovation that dates back to the early 1990s.

Generally, only the pavilion facets are concave cut, with flat facets on the crown. This often creates unusual reflective patterns, especially when the gem is viewed face-up. The concave cut is becoming increasingly popular amongst both jewelry designers as well as gemstone collectors.

October Birthstones

The month of October is rather unique when it comes to birthstones. Two birthstones and powerful healing crystals, opal and the tourmaline, share the place of the October birthstone. These two gemstones both resonate with October and influence the two zodiac signs of Libra and Scorpio.

Question

Are your blue topaz safe to wear?

Answer

Colorless Topaz undergoes an irradiation and heat process to produce the amazing range of blue colors found in Blue Topaz gemstones.

Irradiation sounds a bit scary but the gemstones that this treatment creates are totally safe - you are subject to more radiation exposure by getting an x-ray, flying in an airplane or even watching TV.

That's all for now.
