June Newsletter 2023 - Green Diamonds, Tourmaline carvings and more

Fancy Green Diamonds

Although traditional colorless or 'white diamonds' are by far the most popular type of diamonds, there are a range of other diamond colors available such as yellow, champagne, blue and green. Green diamonds are extremely rare and range from faint green to intense vivid green. Most gems contain a secondary color such as yellow or blue. Due to the rarity, green diamonds are normally found in smaller sizes making them perfect as accent gems or for cluster style settings.

Amazing fire of Sphalerite

Sphalerite is a spectacular gemstone due to its high dispersion (0.156). In fact, the dispersion of sphalerite is over three times that of diamond, which has a dispersion of 0.044. This means that sphalerite has remarkable "fire"; the separation of visible light into colors by refraction or diffraction. In simple terms, this refers to the flashes of color seen when sphalerite is turned in the light. While sphalerite is often bought as a collector's gem, with the right protective setting sphalerite can be turned into a stunning piece of jewelry that outshines that of a diamond!

Tourmaline Carvings

Gemstone carvings has been used as jewelry for hundreds of years, from materials such as jade, turquoise and tourmaline. Gemstone carvings take many forms, including animals, intaglios, cameos and flowers. We recently commissioned a highly skilled artisan to handcraft a range of tourmalines for us, and boy did these blow us away! These are available in a range of colors including rare blue, bi-color, multicolor, mint green, pink and more.

June Birthstone

People born in June are lucky as there are three beautiful birthstones to choose from - Pearl, Moonstone and Alexandrite. A gift of one of these gemstones for a loved one or for yourself would be very much appreciated.
