Malachite is a copper carbonate with distinctive green veining. Though not a particularly hard stone, it takes an excellent polish. Malachite is usually found near copper ore deposits. The most famous malachite mines were in the Ural mountains in Russia, where 20 ton blocks were once taken from the quarries to decorate the palaces of the Russian tsars.

Today the malachite crystal is a scarcer material and the most important producer is the Congo (formerly known as Zaire). Malachite is indeed one of the most popular green gems and is frequently used in gemstone rings, - it is very-well suited for other types of gemstone jewelry, including gemstone earrings, pins and brooches, as well as in necklaces and fine gemstone pendants.

Malachite Price

Malachite is a modestly priced gemstone with prices often ranging from $1 to $5 per carat even for larger gemstones. Malachite is usually cut into slightly larger carat weights of 10 carat and up, and it is not uncommon to find collector’s items with a weight well over 100 carat that is often used as paperweights. I was looking for a source for affordable genuine gemstones for my grandson who is currently very interested in rocks and gems. I was quite surprised and pleased to find GemSelect and finding the right stones at the right price couldn't have been simpler.

I placed order#384714 based on the picture on your website and the stone came in much darker. I'm sure it's the same stone i ordered but your lighting made it seem a lighter blue. I was trying to match a stone for a customer and based on the picture it would have been close enough but the stone in person is a mile off.
