Last month's Gem and Jewelry Fair in Bangkok was a big success with thousands of local and overseas buyers & sellers making deals and forging new business relationships. Our gemstone buyers enjoyed a couple of days away from the office and managed to secure a wide range of new gems. Our photographers and stock staff are working hard and we will list these as soon as possible; keep an eye on our New Arrivals page!

Unknown beauty of Larimar

A gem many may never have heard of is the beautiful Larimar. Larimar is an exquisite turquoise to teal blue colored gemstone that perfectly reflects the inviting waters of the Caribbean Sea which was once thought to be their source. Of course they did not really come from the ocean but instead they are found deep within the jungle clad volcanic mountains of the Dominican Republic. Larimar is only found in one small corner of the world, the famed island of Hispaniola. There are constant rumors of the mine soon being exhausted, this may possibly be true but do not be pressurized into paying excessive prices because ‘next year it’ll all be gone’. Fire Opal, the perfect Autumn Gem

The weather cools down, the light changes; the classic fall colors of orange, red and yellow fill the trees, Halloween and Thanksgiving approach - Autumn is here! While there are a number of gemstones that fit the bill, I think that fire Opal is the perfect Autumn gem! This member of the Opal family is unlike its cousins as it rarely shows the color play that Opals are famous for but the deep, intense and ‘fiery’ oranges and reds will really catch the eye. The color range of fire Opal can be quite wide, and some pieces display various colors in a single stone. Brilliant sunny yellow is highly regarded, but more saturated orange and orange-red colors are especially valuable. Which color is your favorite?

October Birthstone

Fire Opal, along with all the other Opal varieties, is also this month’s birthstone. The month of October is rather unique when it comes to birthstones as it has not one but two different gems as birthstones, Opal and Tourmaline. Both Opal and Tourmaline come in a wide range of colors giving you pretty much endless options.
