Color Change Diaspore is an unusual gemstone in a number of ways. Its most obvious singularity is its ability to change color when moved from one light source to another.
In addition, it is really only mined in one place on earth - the Anatolian Mountains of central Turkey - and it has been marketed under three distinct names - Zultanite, Csarite and most recently Color Change Diaspora.
Diaspore's incredible color change is a wonder to behold. Under natural daylight or in fluorescent lighting, most Diaspore gemstones look light yellow, golden yellow or even a straw color. However as soon as the gemstone is moved into incandescent lighting or, even better, candlelight, it changes to a pinkish-orange or sunset-like color.
The unique display produced by Disapore is caused by the presence of magnesium to create the daytime yellow colors and chromium to stimulate the changes under candlelight.

Color Change Diaspore is an aluminium oxide hydroxide mineral which is found in various parts of the world and is known rather confusingly by several names including empholite, kayserite and tantarite. It was discovered way back in 1801 but only used as a gemstone since the 1970s.
From 2006 Color Change Diaspore has been mined as a gemstone in Turkey initially using one of these trade names:
But more recently just as simply Diaspore or Color Change Diaspore.
Diaspore is a gemstone for the mind - it will increase mental faculties and boost your memory.

The Chakras are centers of energy located around the body which can influence physical and emotional well-being. Each Chakra has an associated color and a sphere of beneficial significance. A gemstone of a similar color can help unblock or realign a troubled Chakra.
Color Change Diaspore is not found in the usual indigo or violet colors but as a gemstone of the mind it is connected to the Third Eye Chakra and can help to realign it if it gets blocked.
Diaspore is also good for the Solar Plexus Chakra which deals with issues such as the ego, self-esteem and digestion.

There is a combination of factors which determine the price for Diaspore. As usual the color is very important and with this gemstone there is the added complication of two or three different colors - the yellow or green base color, the orange or raspberry color change plus the contrast between the two colors.
The ideal stone will have a golden yellow color in daylight then a dramatic change to raspberry red in candlelight.
On top of the price differences caused by the Diaspore color, we have to consider the size of the gemstone. As the gemstones get bigger and bigger they become harder and harder to find so the price per carat rises exponentially - a single carat could be $50 per carat, a 3 carat gemstone could be $100 per carat and a gemstone over 10 carats in weight may fetch $250 per carat or more.
Diaspore gemstones that reach the gems trade markets tend to be high quality in terms of clarity so do not settle for any with a lot of inclusions or internal flaws.

Color Change Diaspore is not treated in any way other than the cutting and polishing into gemstones.
Any enhancing treatments our gemstones receive will be fully disclosed on our product pages.
Diaspore as a mineral has been known since its discovery in the early 1800s but was not used as a gemstone until the 1970s and it was only in the 2000s that enough material was found in the Anatolia Mountains of Turkey to make selling it commercially viable.
Color Change Diaspore in fine enough quality to be used as a gemstone is only found in Mugla, high in the Anatolian Mountains of Central Turkey.
Color Change Diaspore is rated at 6.5 - 7 on Mohs hardness scale which makes it comparable to Peridot and Tanzanite. It can be used in most types of jewelry items but daily wear pieces or rings may need extra care.

I was looking for a tourmaline but although there were numerous beautiful stones to choose from, there was none that fit my need. Then I thought of some other beautiful stones I love and sunstone came to mind. I so thrilled when I was able to find the most gorgeous sunstone and with the exact specifications of my need. GemSelect makes it extremely easy to find the exact stone your looking for quickly and check out is just as easy to go through. I would (and have) definitely recommend GemSelect because of the large selection of stones, ease of use, and fast affordable shipping.

I wanted to buy some gems because I think they’d be cool to have and this seemed like the best website to buy them from. The website is a bit old looking and could use an update to the user interface but otherwise it’s great.

found what looks to be an incredible boulder opal on gemselect.com. Also got a bit carried away and bought more gems than anticipated. It's expensive to pay for these stones in this way, but the convenience makes it worthwhile.

I really enjoy how you can sort the types of gemstones by cut, color, and size. The website is laid out very well. To be able to sort through the gemstones on the rolling slide to the left of the page is a useful tool.

If you want a gem that you can trust to not be treated, or if it is it's disclosed this is the place! There's something for everybody. I really like knowing that the picture of the item is the one I'm buying, not a sample or stock photo. If you make jewelry, buy gems here! You can even buy a gem and have it set by a jeweler. Again, they have an amazing inventory, and prices are more than fair. You won't be disappointed! I just wish they sold uncut gems. Sometimes I just want a specimen in the crystal form. I'm surprised they had no quartz from Arkansas, but they have a great selection of anything I've ever looked for.

Completely would recommend this company to any gem collector, jewelry store, or someone looking for a gemstone to repair their jewelry. There is an abundance of choices at great prices! If you don’t see what you need exactly the customer service department will go above and beyond to meet your needs. Shipping is very reasonable! The gemstones always arrive well before the expected arrival date. This company has very high standards of meeting their customers needs! They are the number 1 company I go to when looking for any gemstone. They are also very detailed in their descriptions so there is no confusion at all as what you are purchasing! Highly recommended!!!!

Gem Select is an excellent website for browsing for what stone you want, and knowing exactly what it looks like and will cost. Very convenient to purchase.

Wide variety of gems in various cuts, sizes, and prices.I found a variety of small gems with good looking cut and clarity and a really great price.Really great overall selection, but a little dated looking site and filtering / navigation options. Only other downside is the only 2 shipping options leaving you paying quite a premium if you want your order faster even for a small order.
