Most cabochons are known to have a smooth, curved or domed top and a flat cut bottom, and are available in a variety of shapes, including round, oval or cushion shapes, but there are also some very interesting variations of the classic cabochon that we've become to know very well. Among the rarer cabochons styles -- and one of the most desirable -- is the 'sugarloaf' cabochon. Sugarloaf cabochons are conically shaped and come to more of a rounded point at the top of usually smoothed domed surface, almost like a mountain or a pyramid. Some of the most fancy designer jewelry lines feature gems with this unique and interesting cut, so sugarloaf cabochons are not just for commercial jewelry, but also fine jewelry too.

Happy about the experience of the store, a lot of stone urge very nice
when I need a colored stone I check gem select. a trusted supplier for at least 10 years for me. many of the online sites have gone black but gemselect continues to satisfy me. oh sure there are many windowed and poorly cut stones here so paying some attention is critical. remember these are not custom cut stones but rather cut by old methods and the aim is to keep weight up at the expense of optical perfection. remember that colored stones are about color as the first consideration. I just wish gemselect offered rough for those who want to cut it.
