FAQs

What is loose hematite, and how is it used?

Loose hematite refers to individual hematite gemstones that are not set into jewelry. These stones, including polished hematite, tumbled hematite stones, and raw hematite, are often used for crafting custom jewelry pieces such as hematite rings or hematite bracelets. They are also popular among collectors and for their hematite healing properties.

What are hematite cabochons and beads?

Hematite cabochons are smooth, polished stones with a domed surface, ideal for creating unique jewelry designs like pendants or brooches. Hematite beads, on the other hand, are small, rounded pieces perfect for stringing into necklaces and bracelets, making them a staple in hematite jewelry creation.

What are the healing properties of hematite gemstones?

Hematite healing properties are believed to include promoting grounding, stability, and focus. This makes hematite a popular choice as a grounding stone, often carried as a tumbled stone or used in meditation practices.

What is the difference between polished hematite and raw hematite?

Polished hematite features a smooth, shiny surface that enhances its dark gray gemstone appearance, making it suitable for elegant jewelry. Raw hematite retains its natural, unprocessed form, often preferred by collectors or for hematite carvings and artistic uses.

Are magnetic hematite and natural hematite the same?

Magnetic hematite is a synthetic version of the natural hematite gemstone, often used for its magnetic properties in wellness products. While they share visual similarities, natural hematite is a true mineral known for its metallic luster and earthy appeal.

Can hematite gemstones be used for carving or sculptures?

Yes, hematite is durable enough for carving. Hematite carvings and hematite spheres are popular decorative items, showcasing the gemstone's dark gray hues and unique metallic finish.

What makes hematite crystals special?

Hematite crystals are prized for their natural beauty and shimmering metallic appearance. They are often displayed as specimens or incorporated into jewelry to highlight their distinct dark gray gemstone qualities.

I have been buying gems for several years off and on and love their selection and great low prices. I started out wanting to get an example of each type of gem but after looking at all the types of gems and reading about them I realize it is almost impossible for me to do. It took me years just to read about them all. Gem Select is the best gem site you can find. For information or to buy. Steve M.

I found what I was looking for...had to look up millimeters to inches. It would be nice to see something, like a quarter, in the pix to show relative size. I plan on buy loose gemstones for every month in the calendar
