Concave Cut Ametrine
Quartz which occurs in bands of yellow and purple has been given the name of ametrine (amethyst + citrine). It is sometimes referred to as trystine and is a natural bicolor combination of amethyst and citrine. Color band combinations in ametrine can range from pale-violet to deep-purple and from pale-yellow to gold-brown. Ametrine's color split is rather abrupt and is not a smooth blend of colors. Both the violet and yellow colors found in ametrine are from traces of iron. Initially cutters favored windowed emerald shapes with a 50/50 split of colors, and much of the rough is still cut this way. More recently, however, some cutters have begun to cut a variety of shapes, many of which create internal reflections that blend the yellow and purple into attractive shades of rosy gold and mauve, or create mosaic-like flashes of both yellow and purple.

Concave cutting involves cutting facets that are three dimensional (curved). The technology to cut concave facets was developed by the American inventor Douglas Hoffman around 1990. It allows conical-shaped, three dimensional facets to be cut, so that each facet has depth as well as length and breadth. The result is that more of the ambient light is refracted and returned to the eye in the form of brilliance.

In order to find the concave-cut ametrine gems that you require, filter the results further by using the left-hand menu. You can buy concave-cut ametrine gems by shape. By using the top menu, you can search by carat weight, size, price, origin and other factors, to enable you to find the exact ametrine gems that you are looking for. All items are in stock and ready to be shipped.

finally bought the last rock to complete my ring idea; needed another white one after giving the big diamond to my daughter. a diamond that size is out of my retired-school-teacher budget, so i bought a white zircon. went back to the same place that i got my loose sapphire-- great selection, good prices, good delivery!

I'm always real pleased with this website, I don't think there is much you could do to make it any better. I wish the shipping charges were lower, but it is understandable.

I recently found a site on-line where you can purchase faceted gems. I made one purchase, and the day the gems arrived, I was so happy with them, that I immediately went back on-line and purchased four more gems! They look better "in person" than they do on the computer screen. I am making purchases for gifts.

Size and Weight

Gems are always measured in Millimeter (mm)

Dimensions are given as;
length x width x depth,
except for round stones which are;
diameter x depth

Select gems by size, not by weight!
Gem varieties vary in density, so carat weight is not a good indication of size

Note: 1ct = 0.2g
