Concave Cut Ametrine
Quartz which occurs in bands of yellow and purple has been given the name of ametrine (amethyst + citrine). It is sometimes referred to as trystine and is a natural bicolor combination of amethyst and citrine. Color band combinations in ametrine can range from pale-violet to deep-purple and from pale-yellow to gold-brown. Ametrine's color split is rather abrupt and is not a smooth blend of colors. Both the violet and yellow colors found in ametrine are from traces of iron. Initially cutters favored windowed emerald shapes with a 50/50 split of colors, and much of the rough is still cut this way. More recently, however, some cutters have begun to cut a variety of shapes, many of which create internal reflections that blend the yellow and purple into attractive shades of rosy gold and mauve, or create mosaic-like flashes of both yellow and purple.
Concave cutting involves cutting facets that are three dimensional (curved). The technology to cut concave facets was developed by the American inventor Douglas Hoffman around 1990. It allows conical-shaped, three dimensional facets to be cut, so that each facet has depth as well as length and breadth. The result is that more of the ambient light is refracted and returned to the eye in the form of brilliance.

I love that I was able to find a site that offers REAL gemstones. I love the pictures provided of the gems so I can look at each one from different angles, I love the variety of gems on the site & I love the ability to narrow down my search to look at certain gems that fit my criteria.
My experience with gemselect was awesome so far. I had a few questions about their website and making orders and they replied quickly and were happy to help. I have not received the items I ordered yet as I just ordered them this morning. Although, I truly feel I am going to be a very happy customer once I do receive my items. Gemselect guarantees all their items and have a great return policy just incase. The have a vast selection of all kinds of stones and not to mention their prices are much better than some other websites. Thanks Gemselect I’ll be doing business here from now on!
Great selection. Love the many learning features like articles and gem information. Prices competitive for natural stones. I do miss not having a selection of lab-made stones, CZ’s, etc, which are useful when price and cost are factors.
