April Newsletter 2023
April is the time of Songkran in Thailand - the traditional Thai New Year - when the whole country celebrates with water fights and Buddhist ceremonies. Seeing as April is the hottest month of the year in Thailand, a refreshing water fight might not be a bad idea!

It’s not all fun and games in our office as we keep working hard bringing beautiful gems to you and this month is no exception.
Tanzanian Spinel
Historically, Burma (Myanmar) has been the world's primary source for fine quality spinel, which is also one of the reasons it has been a difficult gemstone to source for most buyers. However, since the last decade, spinel has become much more openly available because of Tanzanian deposits being commercialized. Burma is still the leader when it comes to the rare red spinel, but Tanzania is becoming one of the top producers for other attractive spinel colors, such as pink, violet, blue, purple and unusual orange. Spinel is a very durable gem with a hardness of 8 making it a perfect choice for all types of jewelry designs.

Rare Champagne Diamonds
The term "champagne diamond" is used to refer to colored diamonds that range in color from light straw to golden or cognac. Most consumers are familiar with transparent white diamonds where the absence of any trace of color results in a higher grading for the diamond. It is worth noting that fancy-colored diamonds are evaluated in a slightly different way to traditional white diamonds. For colored diamonds or fancy-colored diamonds, the intensity of color is the most important factor, with clarity, brilliance and fire holding lesser significance.
Interest in these rare diamonds has grown as more designers incorporate them into jewelry and celebrities are seen wearing them. Champagne diamonds has also become very popular as a white diamond substitute for wedding rings. We have a nice selection of natural, untreated champagne diamonds available for immediate shipment.

Chrome Diopside - Green beauty from Siberia
At first sight, chrome diopside could easily be mistaken for one of the top green gemstones such as tsavorite garnet, tourmaline or even an emerald. However this sparkling deep green gemstone can be snapped up at a fraction of its rival stone's prices. Chrome diopside gets its color from the presence of Chromium and the green color can range from a bright grassy green to a deep forest green. The vast majority of chrome diopside is found in Siberia in northern Russia although small amounts have been discovered in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar. The intense forest green or deep olives with a fantastic sparkle and a clarity that is the envy of many other green gemstones make Chrome Diopside worthy of a closer look.

April Birthstone
Champagne diamonds, together with all other diamonds, is the birthstone of April. With a Mohs hardness of 10 and a brilliant luster, it is one of the most popular gemstones available. Celebrate yourself or a loved one born in April with a diamond from Gemselect.

Customer Questions and Answers:
Question
What causes Kunzite to get its beautiful pink color?
Answer
It is the presence of manganese mineral traces as the crystals form that cause the delightful pink and violet hues of Kunzite.
Question
How do you determine the clarity of your gems?
Answer
Most gemstones have tiny natural irregularities called inclusions. Most inclusions are not visible to the naked eye; usually 10X magnification is required to see these inclusions. We use 10X magnification loupe when grading our gemstones. For a complete guide please visit our Clarity Scale Info Page here - /gem-info/clarity-scale.php
