Introduction to Spinel

For thousands of years, any red gemstone, valued for its beauty and used for jewelry or spiritual powers was called a ruby. At the time, this included such crystals as tourmalines, garnets and spinels.

As gemologists became more and more sophisticated, they were able to identify and separate these gemstones into different varieties but it does mean that ruby is the name associated with all the myths, legends and magical powers of the past.

Spinel has a long history as a sought after gemstone, even if it was misnamed as a ruby, and can be found in many of the jewelry collections of royal families across Europe and Asia.

Spinel is one of the few gemstones that can appear in almost any color. This brings them the additional healing powers of color energy and the ability to influence all the Chakra points.
