Mother-of-pearl is an organic gemstone that comes from the inside of some mollusk shells. Mother-of-pearl is made from nacre, which is mainly calcium carbonate. Like pearls, mother-of-pearl exhibits a pearly luster and an attractive iridescence. Mother-of-pearl tends to be the same color as the pearls produced by the mollusk and their color varies. Mother-of-pearl gemstones may be white, yellow, blue-green, bronze, pink, red, brown, black or banded. Mother-of-pearl gemstones can be natural (occurring without human intervention) or cultured, and may come from saltwater or freshwater. Sometimes mother-of-pearl is called "Cachalong opal" and abalone shell mother-of-pearl is sometimes called "sea opal". Such trade names are due to the play of color seen in both mother-of-pearl and opal.

Loved all my items def will buy again and def will share the company site
Gem select has a great selection of Gems, very defined pictures of item and easy process to filter down selection including, gem, color, type, size and weight.
I had a limited budget and wanted a star ruby. GemSelect offered small, but pretty stones at a very reasonable price. I've always been satisfied with my GemSelect purchases, although there are also eBay vendors I use for less expensive gems. Their selection of more expensive stones, like rubies, is very limited, however.
I decided recently to start a gemstone collection! I searched online for a reputable gem merchant and found gem select! Their selection is gorgeous and I’m excited to receive my first package! Checkout was a breeze!
