Opal Doublet: Buy Opal Doublet Gemstones at Affordable Prices

More than any other gem, each opal is distinctly an individual. No other stone has as rich and varied a folklore. Opals are also the most delicate gems commonly worn. They require special care to insure their health and longevity.

Opal's fire was long thought to be the result of iridescence. However, with the advent of scanning electron microscopes, we now know that it is a result of diffraction.

Opal is relatively soft, with a rating of 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs Scale. Despite its frequent use in rings, opal is a poor choice for a ring stone; it is much better suited to earrings, pins, and pendants.

Major suppliers include Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and the US. Values are normally determined by the presence and nature of color flashes.

An opal doublet consists of a slice of opal glued to a black backing, designed to imitate the appearance of a solid black opal. Adhering the slice of opal to a black backing causes the colour to become much darker and more vibrant. Opal doublets are highly regarded as an inexpensive alternative to solid opals which are very expensive in larger sizes.

So many gorgeous stones! The only "complaint" I have is it's difficult to visualize sizes in mm. Perhaps some way to compare in inches?It has been a long time since I bought stones from Gem select, but the process wasn't too difficult.

I really enjoy browsing through GemSelect. The selection is always marvelous and I love how detailed everything is described. The only thing I noticed is that when browsing through my phone, the videos of the gems do not load. If there were more videos of the gems, that would be amazing, though I understand that is a lot of work on GemSelect's part! Checking out is also very fast and easy, and I love that the return policy is very good, though I hope I don't have to use it anytime soon.

I have actually done business with them before and was quite satisfied with them then.My Mother collected turtle items and when I saw the Mother of Pearl turtle...I just thought of her and decided to buy it. It's even tinier than I thought, but so adorable!The gemstones I bought are for jewelry for my daughter's birthday.

The website is well organized and works fast forward and back. Plenty of filters. Each gem is described in detail and you receive the one pictured. Gem material info and sources available. I would like to see more specifics on sources besides country- at least region or state and in the US with Turquiose which mine. Thanks!
