Tsavorite Garnet Ring Information

Tsavorite Garnet Rings by GemSelect
About Tsavorite Garnet Rings Back to Top

The attractive thing about tsavorite garnet rings is their beautiful green color which can rival fine emerald. Tsavorite garnet is one of the rare grossular garnet varieties and a valuable gemstone that is only found in areas bordering Kenya and Tanzania. The color of tsavorite garnet gems may be yellowish-green or bluish-green and ranges from pale to extremely intense color. As well as their fabulous color, tsavorite garnet rings have good brilliance due to their high refractive index. This means that tsavorite garnets emit a lot of sparkle, especially when worn as rings, which tend to catch more light than other jewelry items such as earrings. Tsavorite garnet rings often feature small, closely-set gemstones, since large tsavorite garnet gems are both rare and extremely valuable. Both yellow gold and white precious metal make stunning tsavorite garnet rings. Any jewelry junkie would be delighted to be the owner of a shiny, green tsavorite garnet ring. If you are partial to fine emerald rings, you will love tsavorite garnet rings, which are an asset to any jewelry box. Shine bright with a tsavorite!

Tsavorite Garnet Ring History Back to Top

Unlike some other garnet varieties, such as pyrope garnet, tsavorite garnet ring history is fairly short, since the gemstone was only recently discovered. Green tsavorite was first found by a Scottish gemologist called Campbell Bridges, while he was walking in Tanzania. It is said that Bridges avoided being charged by a wild buffalo by diving into a gully and while he was there, he noticed some greenish rocks shining in the sunlight. These greenish rocks turned out to be rough tsavorite garnet. Bridges presented his find to the world with a little help from Tiffany & Company. Tragically, Bridges died at the hands of a mob in 2009; his death was said to have been caused by disputed mining rights.

Tsavorite Garnet Rings of the Rich and Famous Back to Top

Tsavorite garnet rings of the rich and famous are few and far between, since tsavorite garnet has not been known for very long. Lupita Nyong'o, an actress who looks good in every color, wore an amethyst, tanzanite, tsavorite and white diamond ring by Chopard at the 2014 Academy Awards. Reese Witherspoon wore a fabulous purple gown and an emerald-cut tsavorite garnet and diamond Tiffany & Co. ring to the 2016 Oscars. It seems that in recent years, celebrities are swapping Colombian emerald rings for some tsavorite garnet bling.

One of the most amazing tsavorite garnet ring designs is a green apple ring by Chopard. The delectable ring is covered in over 800 tsavorite garnet gems and featured in Chopard's Red Carpet collection for the 2012 Cannes International Film Festival. Another incredible piece of artwork in jewelry form is a Chopard flower ring, with ruby petals and a tsavorite stem. Lydia Courteille's Queen of Sheba ring has a large, green tourmaline center stone and marquise-shaped tsavorite garnet accents in brown rhodium gold. The ring appears like the "tree of life". Stephen Webster produced a luxurious lobster ring which also incorporated tsavorite garnet gems. A Tiffany tsavorite ring has an 11.79-carat tsavorite center stone, sitting in a basket of contrasting orange spessartite garnet gems. Green tsavorite garnet looks wonderful in pretty much every jewelry design, whether it shines alone or is accented by white diamond, amethyst, tanzanite, or almost any other gemstone. Tsavorite garnet ring designs often use small gems in cluster, channel or pavé settings, since large tsavorite gemstones are rare. When small tsavorites cover the surface of fine jewelry, their color really packs a powerful punch.

Tsavorite Garnet Ring Buying Guide Back to Top

A good tsavorite garnet ring buying guide should mention that rings with the largest and most vivid green tsavorite garnets will come at the highest prices. Tsavorite garnet rings should usually contain gemstones with no inclusions visible to the naked eye. The most affordable tsavorite garnet rings have smaller gemstones or less vividly colored tsavorite stones. Due to the rarity and high value of tsavorite garnet gems, most rings with large stones have gems with shapes that preserve the most carat weight, such as ovals. This means that fancy-shaped tsavorite garnet gemstone rings may be hard to come by. A wide choice of tsavorite garnet rings may also be difficult to find in mainstream jewelers, so an online gemstone jewelry retailer may be the best source. Most tsavorite garnet rings contain untreated gemstones.

How to Wear Tsavorite Garnet Rings Back to Top

Tips on how to wear tsavorite garnet rings are quite similar to those for emerald rings, though tsavorite garnet gems are generally more durable than emeralds, making them a little more versatile. Like many other green gemstones, tsavorite garnets are ideal for both men's and women's jewelry. Tsavorite garnet rings are easy-to-wear with most other colors, especially green, purple, orange, dark-blue and yellow. For those who do not like to make too much of an impact, neutral colors and black are also complemented by tsavorite garnet rings. Like the other garnet varieties, such as rhodolite garnet, tsavorite garnet rings are hard and durable enough to be worn daily.

Furthermore, those who wear tsavorite garnet are said to benefit from its calming effects and experience positive personal growth. Garnet is the official birthstone for January, so tsavorite rings are also worn as birthstones.
