Apatite is a semi precious stone beloved by collectors for its many different colors and forms. Only with the recent availability of fine green, neon green-blue and bluish green varieties from Madagascar, has its jewelry use increased. Yellow apatite and golden apatite can easily rival the colors of stunning citrine, precious beryl and even golden sapphire, but apatite is not quite as hard as it is the defining mineral for 5 on the Mohs scale.
It's pretty great having a whole lot of different gemstones to choose from. When doing crafts and jewelry making, it's great to have all kinds of options, and it's amazing how much cheaper it is to just purchase un-set gemstones and make the setting yourself, as opposed to buying fully-made jewelry already. It's also extra special since you made it yourself.
