Andradite garnets include demantoid, melanite and topazolite. Demantoid garnet is the most valuable garnet because of its adamantine luster and very high level of brilliance. Demantoid gems from Russia are highly prized, and inclusions in the form of a horsetail are a sign of this country of origin. Melanite is a black garnet that contains titanium and is often given a rose cut to show off its glossy luster. Topazolite is a yellow to brown colored andradite garnet variety that is not often found as a faceted gemstone.
