Turquoise
Turquoise, the blue cousin to lapis lazuli, has been known and valued for thousands of years. The early mines in Sinai, Egypt, were already worked out in 2000 B.C. Today the finest turquoise is found in Iran. Turquoise was first sent to Europe through Turkey, hence its name, which comes from "Turkish" in French.

The brilliant sky-blue color of turquoise has never lost its fascination for gem lovers. It became a classic stone to be set with silver. Cut en cabochon turquoise stones are used for all kinds of jewelry, including brooches, necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings. Due to its relative softness (5-6 on the Mohs scale) and its porous character it requires some care.

Turquoise is believed to promote good fortune, happiness, and a long life. Turquoise is a birthstone for those born in December.

Size and Weight

Gems are always measured in Millimeter (mm)

Dimensions are given as;
length x width x depth,
except for round stones which are;
diameter x depth

Select gems by size, not by weight!
Gem varieties vary in density, so carat weight is not a good indication of size

Note: 1ct = 0.2g
