Assembled gemstones have gone through a type of layering treatment used to enhance color and durability. Assembled stones typically come in the form of doublets and triplets. The treatment is very common for ammolite and opal. It is very well accepted within the gem trade, as long as the treatment is disclosed. Assembled stones are typically composed of a host or matrix rock layered with a thin strip of precious stone. The host rock backing provides thickness, strength and overall durability. Ammolite is a rare gemstone of organic origin that is fairly new to the market, with commercial mining beginning only in 1981. Ammolite is the fossilized shell of ammonites, which are composed primarily of aragonite, the same mineral that makes up nacreous pearls. Ammolite's main attraction is a remarkably vivid play of color. Ammolite is typically used to create doublets or triplets that are suitable for making durable jewelry.
I've been very satisfied with the gems I have purchased since 4 years ago. Good service, variety, clear information regarding the stones for sale and very interesting gemstone information. Congratulations!
I really like the selection from GemSelect. My only complaint is that I would occasionally want a singular small gem for a small setting, but would only be able to find appropriately sized gems sold in pairs or more. There is a limit to how small of a gem that can be bought independently that I dislike.
Strengths: I LOVE the huge range of gems you offer, including collector's gems that are hard to find anywhere else. I also love the range of information provided, and the monthly newsletters!
Weaknesses: Due to the great range of inventory (a strength!), it's hard, even with all the useful filters, to narrow the search parameters enough! Suggestions: Add even more filters, such as "emerald green," not just "green," to your color filter choices. (Yes, just what you wanted, more coding work!)
Overall: Your site is incredibly valuable to gemhounds everywhere, whether we be jewelers, geologists, or just interested browsers. A wonderful resource!
